About the
Area
Hopewell, Virginia is a landmark of
colonial and 19th-century history. Appomattox Plantation at City
Point was built in 1763. During the Civil War, General Ulysses
S. Grant directed the Siege of Petersburg from the grounds of
this historic home.
Weston Manor, an elegant 18th-century plantation home, overlooks
the Appomattox River. Its guided tour includes three floors
furnished in period antiques and reproductions. Hopewell is also
near the historic James River Plantations, Berkeley and Shirley.
Cultural Activities
Cultural activities center on the restored Beacon Theatre and
the new Appomattox Regional Library in Downtown Hopewell. These
venues offer ongoing performances, exhibits and special events.
Cameron’s Landing puts you within an easy drive of the the
historic cobblestone paths in Richmond’s downtown, reminiscent
of colonial Virginia. Here visitors can enjoy the finest food
