About the Area
The Ashley River is a historic Eastern Seaboard waterway with great significance to the economic development of colonial South Carolina. Along its banks rose many famous antebellum mansions—built in a style seen found throughout  Charleston today.

Ideal Blend of History and Modern Life
The Charleston Museum is one of America’s first and oldest historic galleries. Visitors to the museum enjoy a rich variety of exhibited objects ranging from ancient fossils and an enormous whale skeleton to Civil War artifacts and historic Charleston silver.
